About Rejuvenation Medicine
The definition given by Binstock for antiaging medicine is the following: "measures taken in order to slow, stop or even reverse phenomena related to aging, as well as to increase life span".
At this point in time, we have two basic AntiAging Interventions:
In its broadest sense, "prevention" is anything that is done to counter the body's inexorable progressions toward disease and death.

A Short Course on Anti-Aging Medicine
I Didn't Expect This So Soon!
You and I have a lot in common. We both have accomplished at least a measure of success in life. We have both felt the exhilaration of the "done deal". You and I had to nurture an idea into reality. We both have felt the anticipation of watching our own ideas coming into fruition.
You weren't given a manual on how to be successful. You figured out for yourself how to make the best out of life. You had to buck the tends. You had to go your own way to make things happen. You had to corral clueless others into cooperation.
You had to think for yourself to get to where you are now!

Bio-Identical Estrogens and Progesterone
Estrogens are vital hormones of growth and development in humans, but particularly in women between menarche and menopause. The term, “estrogen” is generic for a variety of related steroids. There are 3 estrogens found in humans: estrone, estradiol and estriol, also known as E1, E2 and E3 respectively.
Estradiol (E2) is the most potent estrogen in humans, and it is vital for procreation. If instituted early after menopause, administered E2 provides health benefit [1]. Estradiol importantly prevents bone loss [2,3], protects the heart from arteriosclerotic disease [4], and prevents Alzheimers. Drops in the levels of Estradiol is the notable cause of hot flashes during the peri-menopausal years. However, as you just read, supplementation of bio-identical estrogen after menopause, and after menopausal symptoms subside continue to provide heath benefit.

Cancer Prevention Supplements
This article is not meant to be an exhaustive discussion of cancer preventive supplements. As well, there is no guarantee that supplementing various vitamins and minerals will absolutely prevent cancer in any one individual. I definitely think that supplementation of the following hormones, vitamins, and minerals will lower the rate of cancer in the population. It is your choice to either follow my counsel or not.
Remember one simple fact: death is not a tragedy, it is an absolute certainty. Your goal should be to live a long and healthy life. It is with that in mind that I write these recommendations.

Weight Loss Program
One corollary to dealing with patient desires to become more healthy is the treatment of the current epidemic of obesity. I have practiced bariatric medicine since 1995 including wide experience in the use of various weight loss medications.
Regardless of hormone imbalance, and such co-existing issues as fatigue and hair loss, people come to see me primarily for weight loss. They are horrified by their own appearance and their inability to drop weight. About a third of the US population is obese, with associated increased risks of hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis, and some cancers.

DHEA
Dehydroepiandrosterone, or DHEA for short, is a steroid hormone, and one considered basic or elemental in human physiology.
What is a steroid? A steroid is a relatively simple molecule that has a chicken wire appearing basic skeleton of connected carbon atoms with little short chemical appendages added at various locations on the skeletal structure.
These little appendages can make various steroid molecules differ widely in function. We all know that Testosterone provides male characteristics and Estradiol, the major human estrogen, lends female characteristics.

Doctor Supervised Weight Loss That Works
The following essay will give you my experience and approach concerning weight loss that I have developed since I first began this type of therapy in May of 1995.
At that time, Fen-Phen was all the rage, with people reporting dropping massive amounts of weight over a relative short period of time. In fact, my star female patients were dropping over 20 lbs of fat per month during the first several months on the program, and some male patients dropping in excess of 30 lbs of fat per month.

Growth Hormone
Growth Hormone is a protein, a string of 191 amino acids, that is produced in the pituitary gland of the brain. It is not a steroid.
hGH is released from the pituitary in pulsatile waves lasting minutes throughout the day, but the major amount is released at night during deepest sleep, when pulses last 1½ to 4 hours and are of greatest amplitude.
After hGH is released by the pituitary, it flows with the blood downstream to the liver, where it stimulates the production of another hormone, called Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1).

Hormones and Breast Cancer
For Jeannette when your doctor says: You have breast cancer, so you have to stop taking hormones..........
Jeannette: What’s a hormone?
Dr. Odom’s Answer: A chemical substance, formed in one organ or part of the body and carried in the blood to another organ or part; depending on the specificity of their effects, hormones can alter the functional activity, and sometimes the structure, of just one organ or of various numbers of them.

I Am An Anti-Aging Doctor
According to doctors Goldman & Klatz, founders of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine: "Anti-aging medicine is a medical specialty founded on the application of advanced scientific and medical technologies for the early detection, prevention, treatment, and reversal of age-related dysfunction, disorders, and diseases."[1]
The aim of anti-aging medicine is to extend not only the human lifespan but also the quality of life and to limit the debilitating effects of aging.

Low Thyroid Function
Although growth hormone (hGH) is the hormone most associated in the public mind with anti-aging medicine, thyroid, by far, engenders the most interest from patients. As well, the anti-aging doctor’s use of thyroid replacement therapy causes the greatest anger from the rest of the medical establishment, especially from other doctors and pharmacists. I guarantee to you that this antipathy arises solely from the twin demons of ignorance and arrogance.
Hypothyroidism is poorly diagnosed and treated by conventional medicine. For this reason, once it gets around that the anti-aging doctor will actually treat low thyroid function with thyroid, and actually to the extent that low thyroid symptoms are completely reversed, patients flock to the anti-aging doctor for relief!

Stem Cell Medicine
Our bodies are made up of cells and acellular structural materials produced by cells. Structural material may be boney or collagenous. This material serves as a lattice work for the cells, giving them collective shape or configuration.
Cells are microscopic, specialized living units made up of a nucleus with DNA, surrounded by organelles swimming in a sea of cytoplasm, which in turn is bordered by a membrane. These tiny living units exist to function in unison to benefit the body as a whole.

Stem Cell Medicine (an update)
Before discussing available stem cell medicine, let’s briefly review what are stem cells.
Cells are the smallest living components of the body collected together as groupings of similar specialized cells into tissues and organs, such as fat or the liver.
Cells are organized on noncellular lattices referred to as “scaffolds”, which can be made of malleable protein material or stiff bone.
Organs are made of cells specialized for particular function. Typically, they do not divide and have a definite life span.

Stem Cell Treatment for Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile Dysfunction, commonly known as E/D is a debilitating issue for many men past age 40. This may include either the inability to obtain and maintain an erection, or simply a soft erection or one softer than acceptable.
I have used a variety of procedures to treat erectile dysfunction, including Extra-Corporeal Shockwave Therapy (ECSWT) using staccato-like sound wave pulses along the shaft of the penis, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injected into the corpus cavernosae, or stem cells injected the same way. Some men have found benefit from these procedures, but many have not found a reversal of their loss of erectile ability.

Testosterone for Men
We know that a woman faces menopause as her ovaries quit producing eggs at about age 51. Her ovarian hormones decline as typically do adrenal and thyroid function. Women are acutely aware of these changes due to the monthly fluctuations of hormones that have accompanied them for about 4 decades of life.
But, how about men? Men don’t have monthly fluctuations of hormones and so are generally not aware of slow changes caused by an age related reduction of hormones. But finally, usually at about the same age as the woman, he or his spouse begins to note “diminished libido and sense of vitality, erectile dysfunction, reduced muscle mass and bone density, depression, and anemia.” This complex of signs and symptoms is reflected in a reduction of blood levels of Testosterone.

Testosterone for Women
The ovaries make three hormones:
Ovarian production of all 3 hormones decline with age and ceases at menopause. Some very minor production continues in the adrenal glands after menopause, but not enough to produce the health benefits associated with them.
